Just been so busy this month argh. Government end of year, plus me taking a night course that requires solid effort and attendance during the busiest time of year at work. Super smart. I have a day or two break before work goes crazy twice over, and here I am.

So I sat and thought, and thought. And my two big choices were:
-Montreal to Brussels, direct flight with Air Transat - $800
-Toronto to Reykjavik(25hrs) to Brussels - $960

I could deal with the increase in price - I could definitely budget and extra couple hundred for flight(and extra cost of getting to Toronto over Montreal) and the day(once I figured out what I would DO there). Aaaand at it's worst I could just wander the city by foot and check out food, shops, drinks, etc(these people complain about expensive alcohol, they clearly know not the woes on certain parts of Canada).

The big fucking problem is Toronto. Toronto why u do this?

The biggest problem, however, is all my flight options have me come into Toronto at 6:55pm. The last train leaves at 6:35(not to mention the train station is almost an hour away..). I can't even bus out, they don't run late enough. I would have to stay overnight and waste an extra day coming back >:(
Greyhound and Via Rail are exceptionally unhelpful, and is looking like Iceland is off the table for me :/

So I am pretty disappointed, because I was definitely ready to spend the extra money, but I just get fucked over too much on my way back home.

Been so busy this past week getting things ready and starting my night class. And now tomorrow, I head to Jamaica until the 28th!
So everyone have fun this week without me!

So after many, many months of nary an illness, being alone in my dept when EVERYONE else is home with the flu or on vacation, I finally succumbed. I mean, it's not terrible, just a runny nose, body temperature out of whack.

I feel miserable nonetheless.
BLEAGRGEHGA. I have not slept so much in quite a while. I guess better to be sick now, than next weekend on a plane to a hot country.

New Year off to a busy start!

I hosted a New Years party myself - first time ever, and it was fairly successful! About 8 or 9 people in all, and played various games (Telestrations, Munchkin, Space Fluxx, etc). Overall, a lot of fun. And lots of food and drink consumed O_O. No Super drinking at least, but happy to have been able to take advantage of the sales did for foodstuffs.

Also exhausting! Introverted people should not host parties I think.

Then this weekend I went to a wedding. It was a friend of Jeremy's, so I did not know the bride and groom, I knew about 5-6 people who were guests. Despite being a very traditional, christian wedding, these people(including the bridesmaids and groomsmen) are nerdy as fuck. Half the lead up to the reception and the reception itself was nerd arguments (batman vs superman, Vader vs The Doctor, Minecraft mods, etc) the ENTIRE wedding party wore converse sneakers(David Tennant Doctor homage.). It was pretty amusing, but also exhausting. 12 hours. And after the wedding ceremony, I went with Jeremy and some of the groomsmen to the hotel to.... set up the reception. And then at the end of the night, tear it all down and help with cleanup. It was very surreal to do this for people I didn't know.

And next weekend with be my only free weekend for the next month. And I'll need to use it for shopping. I need another pair of shorts, a bathing suit(ogodkillme),and some sort of flipflops or sandals to wear for the Jamaica trip in two weeks.

On top of everything else I am starting my next night class on the 15th - Quantitative Methods. It'll probably be my last college course before moving on to University. My next focus needs to be talking to two universities to find out what I can do and transfer so I can complete a degree, which is my next requirement for CGA. Luckily this class is covered by my work, so that'll be almost $700 I get back in four months. But there are no guarantees about which ones will be covered and which ones won't.

So I actually have a busy year ahead, but it looks to be a fairly good one. Here's hoping.

Happy 2013 everyone.

So we got a second dump of 20-25cm of snow yesterday. It was absolutely lovely to watch it snow all day. Very relaxing.
Christmas was good. Nothing to report really.

I spent the last few days having a god damn heart attack because I thought I was more than broke and screwed up my budgeting, and then this morning I thought $250 went missing for rent. I spent an hour in a panic until I could get to work and look up my bank account, thinking I would have to drain my savings, wouldn't have my money to pay for this term's course, etc. Got to work, logged in immediately, and....
oh, no problems. In fact, less problems. I have money?
Turns out with the holidays barfing all over the place, it took several days for a few things to show up - including a large payment I made. I thought I had just fucked up and burned through all my money. Crisis averted! I feel better now. It's amazing how waiting that time in the unknown can set off such a deep downward spiral.

New years Eve I actually have plans. In fact, I am hosting! I haven't even done shit for NYE for about 3-4 years! And now I am the doer. It'll be a wicked board games night, which makes me doubly excited because goddamn I love board games, but getting 5-6 people together to have a solid number of bodies to play(IMO, perfect games night is about 7 people.). So I'm excited. If I can find Apples to Apples cheap, I might even pick it up(because it's fun to own both that and Cards Against Humanity). My annual regret is that I do not own Scattergories. One of my favourite games from a kid, but holy hell it is never cheaper than $50. Very frustrating.

Soooo... Board games! Yay. Trying to find other people to invite to round off the numbers. Also, it'san excuse to bake more (going to make Lemon Tassies and something else yet undecided).

Merry Christmas everyone!
22 December 2012 @ 12:32 am
I made it through this week!

-Two loaves of cinnamon bread
-orange brownie cookies
-fiddle diddles
Successful week! This weekend will bring chocolate mousse and either lemon bars or sugar cookies. Or all of it!

Baking has really helped me get into Christmas and I finish my shopping this weekend. Just wrapping things up with gift cards I could not buy until payday.

I think I was going to talk about other things, but all I can think of is baking(luckily I have been pawning loads of said baking off on other people, so I have not been eating much of my own)

I apparently closed instead posting my entry several days ago. No longer relevant :P

1. I have four gifts left to buy, and only one to actually figure out. Just waiting for payday to buy the other gifts.
2. I am baking so much this week. So excited! (Cinnamon Bread, Fiddle Diddles, Brownie M&M cookies, Sugar cookies)
3. I realized today that I have been slowly heading into a depressive phase. I'm hoping since I realize it at this point, I can keep myself from getting worse. We will see in the coming week or two.
4. I did a lot of window shopping and Christmas shopping today at a bookstore, which I have not done for awhile. Man it was tough to not spend $400. BOOOOOOOKS.
5. I finished with Christmas lights, and added Candy canes to my makeshift tree. I am happy with it. I can't put lights on my balcony though! I was looking so forward to decorating my balcony with lights! But there is no outdoor plugs in this apartment building >:(

edit: I saw the Hobbit, and despite some minor things, I enjoyed it a lot and I look forward to the next movie. My biggest gripe is the soundtrack. I am this close to writing a letter to Howard Shore. For a few things, but the most notable one is I am so. damn. disappointed. That they do not have a full version of the Misty Mountains poem/song available. I want the full 27 verse sung goddammit! I've listened to one or two beautiful ones on youtube, but it is very frustrating that I get a two-minute glimpse of it in The Hobbit. :( My jimmies are greatly rustled.
